Cut or Bitten Mouth

Apply wrapped ice to bruised area. If bleeding, apply gentle pressure with clean gauze or cloth. If bleeding doesn't stop after 10-15 minutes, or if heavy and can't be controlled by pressure, go to the nearest emergency room or urgent care center or call 9-1-1.

Permanent Tooth Knocked Out

Quickly locate the tooth and pick it up carefully, touching the crown (top) and not the root if possible. Rinse the tooth if needed, but do not clean or handle it unnecessarily. If the tooth is whole (not broken or cracked), gently re-insert it into its socket. Hold the tooth in place by biting down on clean gauze or cloth. If you can't re-insert it, transport it in a cup of milk or water. This helps keep the root alive until you can see us. Timeliness is crucial to help save the tooth!  Call us at (248) 435-8880 or email DrVan@GLDentistry.com right away!

Broken Tooth

Rinse dirt or debris from injured area with clean, warm water. Place a cold compress over injured area of face. Find and save any pieces of broken tooth you can. See us IMMEDIATELY.

Toothache or Sore Gums

Thoroughly clean around sore area. Rinse by swishing warm salt water and/or try to dislodge trapped food or debris with dental floss. Don't put aspirin directly on teeth or gums, but do take an over-the-counter pain reliever like ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil, etc.) if you are able to. If your face is swollen, apply a cold compress or a bag of frozen peas.

Possible Broken Jaw

Try to keep the jaw from moving by using a towel, tie, or handkerchief. Go to the nearest emergency room or urgent care center.

Bleeding After Baby Tooth Falls Out

Have child bite down on clean, folded gauze or cloth over the bleeding area for 15 minutes. Repeat once if necessary, but call us if bleeding continues.

Cold Sores / Canker Sores

Usually over-the-counter preparations bring relief until sores heal. Because some serious diseases can begin as small sores, let us know if sores worsen or persist longer than two weeks.

After going to the same dentist for 30+ years he retired. A friend recommended Dr. V, that it would be worth the drive. I live in Canton so it is 70 miles round trip. The friend was correct in recommending Great Lakes Dentistry. His office staff is competent and friendly which usually tells you their boss is also. Dr. V was very courteous and put me at ease. I am so happy I have my dentistry needs met now that my family will be going over there also. Thank you Dr. V and your staff for a pleasant dentist visit. Great Lakes Dentistry is certainly worth the drive.read more
